Tibet: The truth must be revealed

Tibet has seen the most widespread protests against China's occupation since 1959. The protests have been put down by brutal military force resulting in the arrests, torture and killings of Tibetans including women and children. China has banned all foreigners and journalists from Tibet thus effectively hiding their bloody crackdown from the world.
The truth must be revealed and the Chinese Government must be held accountable for its actions.

Print off the postcard and send it to your MP, calling on him/her to instruct Lord John Sawers, UK ambassador to the UN to demand an immediate, on the ground, UN investigation of the events in Tibet.

Imprisoned for wanting the return of the Dalai Lama

On 1 August 2007, a Tibetan nomad, Runggye Adak, grabbed a microphone at the Lithang horse festival and called for a return of the Dalai Lama to Tibet. He was immediately arrested, and in November 2007 was sentenced to eight years in prison for expressing his desire to see his spiritual leader. Three others connected with the case were put on trial for "endangering national security". Runggye Adak's nephew Adak Lopoe, a monk, was sentenced to 10 years. Kunkhyen, an art teacher, was sentenced to nine years, and Jarib Lothok received a three year sentence for helping to send photos of the protest abroad.

Print out the post card and send it to foreign secretary David Miliband MP to ask the government what steps they are making to secure the prisoners' immediate release.

Prime Minister: You sat down with the Dalai Lama, now please stand up for Tibet

We thank Gordon Brown for meeting recently with the Dalai Lama. It was the right thing and proper thing to do. As the Prime Minister is aware, the problems in Tibet can never be resolved without the involvement of the Dalai Lama. The Chinese government, however, prevent meaningful negotiations by imposing meaningless preconditions on talks about Tibet.

Write to the Prime Minister asking him to stand up for Tibet by stating publicly that the Chinese government must drop these preconditions and end its campaign of vilification against the Dalai Lama.

Demand the immediate release of the Panchen Lama

In May 1995, Gedhun Choekyi Nyima 'disapeared' with his family after being recognised as the 11th Panchen Lama when he was just 6 years old.

The Chinese Government claims that he is in 'protective custody'. We are extremely concerned that Gedhun's movements are heavily restricted whilst all requests over the years to allow international impartial observers access to the family have been turned down.

Print the postcard and write to the Chinese Embassy or consulate closest to you and ask them to ensure that international observers are given access to Gedhun and his family to establish their well-being, and call for their immediate and unconditional release.
