UCS 17/01/07: Update on Nangpa La Pass shootings

Update to Urgent Campaign - Chinese Army Shooting at Tibetan refugees at Nangpa La Pass (issued 6 October 2006)

17 January 2007

Thanks to your overwhelming response to this Urgent Campaign many MPs have raised this issue with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. In reply to the many letters on this issue Ian McCartney MP, Minister for Foreign Affairs, has stated that the British Government is "working both bilaterally and through the EU to to seek an urgent and transparent investigation by the Chinese Government... The EU raised the incident with the Chinese Government at the EU-China Human Rights Dialogue, held in Beijing on 19 October 2006. We will continue to urge the Chinese Government to provide further information concerning this incident."

TAKE ACTION

It is now imperative that the pressure is kept on the British Government to pressure the Chinese Government for such an investigation and we therefore ask that you contact your MP again and ask him/her what response the Government has received from China.
