Tibet's nomads under threat Five sentenced to death China delays filtering software Free Tibet merchandise
For more than 4,000 years nomads have grazed herds of yaks over Tibet's grasslands, forging an intuitive understanding of how best to live in harmony with their high-altitude environment. But now their traditional way of life is threatened with extinction: China is relocating vast numbers from their lands into anonymous colonies of urban tenements to make way for dams and mines intended to plunder Tibet's natural resources. The policy not only robs nomads of their land, it is also causing huge social problems within nomadic communities.
